Port Moody’s popular Site B Community Centre greenlit for another 3 years

A popular event venue in Port Moody has got a new lease on life.

On March 11, city council unanimously voted to renew the temporary use permit for the Site B Community Centre, a business which rents the space out for a wide variety of uses.

Coun. Callan Morrison said the facility is so widely used and versatile, it has become a valuable community asset.

“I feel like Site B is almost like a city facility,” he said. “It has a lot that it offers. The uses are almost endless.”

Located at 3012 Murray St., Site B is an open 7,000 square foot space that can be customized for private events. Business meetings, co-work spaces, reunions, fundraisers, dance parties, comedy events, indoor sports, and even official city meetings have all been hosted there.

Temporary use permits last for three years and allow spaces to be used outside their official zoning designation. At the discretion of council, the term can be extended for an additional three years before the permit has to be reapplied for.

The company has applied for more commercial uses such a retail and office space, as well as a liquor licence.

It also plans to apply for a building permit to carry out some internal renovations at the site, according to staff.

Staff recommended the extension, stating that Site B as a “hub for community events and gatherings for residents of Port Moody and the Tri-Cities.”

They said the company has always obtained special events permits when necessary, and has never been the subject of any complaints or bylaw infractions since it opened in 2021.

Coun. Kyla Knowles praised the company’s business model, adding its managers have been great at working with city staff.

“I just love this space. It’s so creative, the way they’ve just kind of kept such a flexible and nimble business plan,” she said. “I think a lot of businesses should really kind of take note.”
