Police deploy helicopter to catch alleged dangerous driver

When they didn’t catch him on the streets, the police took to the skies.
Coquitlam RCMP spotted a speeding motorcyclist with no licence plate weaving in and out of traffic along Coast Meridian Road on May 31, according to a release from the department.
Officers decided the best way to “ensure public and police officer safety” was to deploy air support.

A nearby police helicopter quickly located the vehicle.

Surveillance video released by the police shows the motorcyclist switching from lane to lane while zipping past vehicles on the bridge.
The motorcyclist travelled through “multiple jurisdictions including Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam,” the release stated.

The driver was arrested without incident, stated Coquitlam RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Alexa Hodgins in a release.
“This situation could have easily had deadly consequences, but by utilizing Air 1, officers were able to reduce the risk to the public,” according to Hodgins.
Police are recommending both driving and criminal charges.
