Dear editor,
After reading the article regarding the six-story commercial and apartment developments proposed for Clarke street, it’s nice to see they are keeping the old butcher shop. However they should be keeping the old boot shop. So many of friends have commented on this building and taken photos.
I totally disagree with the mayor regarding having a more modern look. (Why would anyone want lose sight of a heritage design )? The mayor’s view of having a modern design makes me worry that Port Moody will start to lose its appeal as a heritage area.

Having one building with the heritage look makes it look out of place against this purposed modern concept design.
Cloverdale managed to preserve their old country feel. I don’t see why council can’t keep the feel with this development and future developments in that area.
That area of the street, if developed correctly, could become another area of Port Moody to which people/tourists would visit if the heritage design for future development was kept in mind.
Thank you,
Chris Bettles
