Youth hospitalized after firework accident

A 12-year-old boy was sent to hospital after being hit in the face by an exploding firework on Friday evening near the Port Moody rec complex, according to a release from the Port Moody Police Department.
Police headed to the centre at about 8:20 p.m. after a resident called to report youths setting off fireworks. Upon arriving, officers realized the boy had been injured by a firework set off by one of his friends. The boy’s friends ran from officers before being found a short distance away.
The boy’s injuries aren’t life threatening. However, one of his eyes was impacted and he likely suffered burns, according to PMPD.

While the incident was found to be an accident, the youth who set off the firework was hit with a $500 fine.
“This incident serves as a reminder of the inherent dangers of fireworks being set off by those who have no business doing so,” stated PMPD spokesperson Sgt.
