Grab your art brushes, Port Moody. The city wants new street banners.
The City of the Arts is asking for a little help.
On Monday, Port Moody announced it’s accepting submissions for new street banners from residents. Beginning next year, a number of designs — selected by a panel — will be displayed on street poles across the city.
“The StreetArts Banner Program brings people of all ages together to create beautiful art that strengthens the vibrancy and visual identity of our streets and our city as a whole,” wrote Mayor Meghan Lahti in a statement.

The StreetArts program launched in 2002, with community involvement in street banners taking place shortly thereafter.
Adults and children over the age of six are eligible to participate.
(The city also issued a public art call for artist-designed street banners last month.)
All submissions must follow the theme, ‘Planting Our Gardens,’ and only include four colours: light green, purple, red and orange. The city has provided some key words — pollinators, gardens, flowers, vegetables and fruits, among others — to inspire this year’s design.
The garden theme is a metaphor for a growing community, the city stated. Gardens not only provide people with food, but support pollinators and engage multiple senses such as sight and smell.
Last year’s theme was ‘Renewal and Rejuvenation.’
Submissions are open until Oct. 11. The panel will then select 30 designs. If your design is selected you will paint the banner in-person in January at the Civic Centre Galleria, where it will be on display until Jan. 30.
Banners will be installed on streets in April and hang until November 2025.
