Coquitlam RCMP get a new superintendent

The Lower Mainland District RCMP announced that Insp. Ian MacLellan has been promoted to the rank of Superintendent and selected as the new Officer-in-Charge of the Coquitlam RCMP.

The Coquitlam Detachment serves the communities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore, Belcarra and the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) First Nation.

MacLellan is bringing his experience and over 23 years of service with the RCMP to the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment. 

“I am truly honoured and excited for the opportunity to lead the Coquitlam RCMP,” said MacLellan. “I look forward to listening to our communities, strengthening partnerships, and working together to ensure our communities remain among the safest and most welcoming in British Columbia. I look forward to continuing to build public trust, utilizing innovative solutions to enhance our policing operations and working to keep our communities safe for everyone.”

In his most recent role, MacLellan has been serving as a Senior Major Crime Investigator with RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit, where he’s been responsible for overseeing a number of teams within the section, including Serious Crime Unit, General Investigations Unit, Missing Persons, Unsolved Homicide, Special Victims, Domestic Violence, Legal Application Support Team, Integrated Child Exploitation and Interview Team. Prior to that role, he worked in Traffic Services, Professional Standards and Serious Crime.

Before joining the Surrey RCMP in 2015, he served in Ontario, working with the O Division Legal Application Support Team, as well as Toronto Integrated National Security Enforcement Team and Toronto Integrated Proceeds of Crime Team.

MacLellan began his RCMP career with the Trail and Greater District RCMP and worked within the BC RCMP Major Crime Section.

MacLellan is originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia and has two teenage children who are involved in competitive softball and basketball.
