Coquitlam is making its two largest pools more accessible to all residents.

On Monday, the city announced two new features — a virtual tour and aqua fit class — to help residents with accessibility needs plan trips to City Centre Aquatic Complex and Poirier Leisure Complex.

The virtual tours will allow people to explore accessibility features inside both pools and reduce any fears about coming into an unknown space, the city wrote in a press release

“They showcase facility layouts, with key details like washroom access and available equipment,” according to the release published on Feb. 5.

The aqua fit class, meanwhile, is for residents that are 19 or older and will be taking place on Thursday mornings at the Poirier Leisure Complex. The classes, which are drop-in and cost $2 to attend, are focused on: “low impact exercises to improve activities of daily living.”

There will be a hydraulic transfer lift, water wheelchair and float belts among other equipment available to residents.

If you are interested in the class, the city advises people to register one week in advance, as there is a maximum of six swimmers per class. Support people do not need to register.
