PoCo pool closed until spring break following ruptured pipe; swim lessons moved to Hyde Creek

Swimmers hoping to take a dip in the Port Coquitlam Community Centre pool this month will remain high and dry.
The city shut down the pool in January for annual maintenance with tentative plans to re-open in mid-February. However, the pool is now set to be off-limits until mid-March after a pipe broke.
Because the pipe leads to a feature under the pool, workers have to core a hole in the pool tank, explained the city’s director of recreation Glenn Mitzel.

“The repair was relatively simple, however now we need to give applicable cure time for concrete, tiles and grout,” Mitzel explained.
The repair is covered under warranty, Mitzel added.
Patrons won’t be able to access the changerooms or aquatic area showers while work is underway.
Other areas of the rec centre, including showers and changerooms in the main lobby, are set to remain open.
Swim lessons and other aquatic classes previously set for PCCC will be moved to Hyde Creek rec centre, according to a release from the city.
