Teen charged with mischief after allegedly driving car off Rocky Point boat launch

A 19-year-old is charged with mischief under $5,000 for allegedly driving his car off Rocky Point into the inlet last March.
Jawad Mazen Fawwaz is facing a criminal record in connection with the March 4 incident that ended with a car being stuck in the water for approximately 10 hours before being towed out.
Video of the incident was shared across social media. After being offered cash by a streamer, the video showed the driver easing the vehicle down the ramp before hopping out as the car sunk beneath the waters.

The B.C. Prosecution Service couldn’t confirm some of the circumstances in police reports, including involvement of any other individuals, according to a statement from BCPS communications counsel Damienne Darby.
The streamer is not being charged with a crime, stated Port Moody Police Department media relations officer Const. Sam Zacharias.
Police do not know if the driver got the money he was promised, Zacharias added.
The first court appearance is set for May 13.
