Paid parking at Suter Brook Village and Ungless Way will cost $2.25 an hour from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m all year round.

Introducing paid parking is intended to encourage turnover at popular destinations and align with Port Moody’s climate goals by encouraging folks to take alternative transit (such as biking, buses or walking). It also will increase city revenue.

“We’re not trying to gouge our residents here,” said Coun. Kyla Knowles at an April council meeting, where council approved the parking implementation plan.

“I really hope this leads to increased turnover for our businesses, for our residents, and improved traffic control. So let’s give it a shot,” she said.

City staff estimated that the city will earn over $550,000 per year, conservatively, with a net revenue of $85,000 to $200,000 (after subtracting taxes, fees, contracts with parking vendors, and additional staff salaries).

Veterans, folks with accessible parking permits and city staff using parking spaces for work are exempt.
