Tri-Cities Dispatch is an independent, non-partisan and non-profit digital news organization. Our mission is to engage with readers on matters of public interest and to deliver impartial, smart and essential news to the citizens of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra, B.C. one story at a time.
We adhere to the following guiding principles as we work to deliver news that informs local residents:
Local
Tri-City journalists will focus on stories and issues that have importance and interest related to our community.
Accuracy
Tri-City journalists will take responsibility for the accuracy of their work, verify information before releasing it, and use original sources whenever possible.
Perspective
We aim to tell the story of the diversity and magnitude of the human experience by seeking sources whose voices we seldom hear and attempting to reflect in our reporting the diversity of the Tri-Cities.
Independence
Our journalists recognize they have a special obligation to serve as watchdogs over public affairs and government and to hold powerful institutions to account. Editorial decisions are made by journalists and their editors alone.
Representative
As a local journalism outlet, our success depends on the trust and confidence of our readers. We strive to represent the best values of our local community and our readers, both in editorial and business decisions, through ongoing surveys and reader feedback.
These principles are evolving, with feedback from our readers whose input we seek to guide the development of this community project. You can look forward to seeing an expanded version of our ethics statement and editorial standards when we launch our website.
If you believe in our mission, and want to keep our stories free and accessible for all, we need 100 contributors by May 14. Please consider supporting local journalism today.
