Coquitlam teacher reprimanded for breaching boundaries with students

A teacher who talked about the romantic lives of his students was found to have committed professional misconduct, according to a consent resolution agreement recently published by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation.
Kurtis Michael Johnston Raue was teaching at School District #43 when he told one student, identified as Student A, that they and Student B would “make a good couple.” He later told Student B that Student A might like them.
The teacher commented on a hickey on Student A’s neck and on their romantic partner’s neck.

When Student A complained they would never find a romantic partner, Raue told his student they were pretty and had a natural look. Raue told another student they looked mature for their age.
According to the agreement, Raue also let students who were supposed to be in another class stay in his classroom without telling the students’ teachers.
The district eventually suspended the teacher for 21 days without pay and required Raue to complete a course on boundaries.
Raue later admitted to professional misconduct and agreed to a two-day suspension.
Raue committed “significant and repeated breaches of professional boundaries,” according to the agreement.
Raue agreed not to make any statement that contradicts the terms or admissions in the agreement.
