Port Moody police are searching for information after two suspects tried to rob a Newport Village business on Tuesday morning.

Two assailants, both of whom appeared to be males in their early 20s wearing hoodies, surgical masks and sneakers, approached a business in the 200-block of Newport Drive at about 10 a.m.

The suspected allegedly produced a firearm and assaulted a female employee.

“Thankfully, the employee did not suffer any serious injuries,” stated Port Moody Police Department media relations officer Const. Sam Zacharias in a release.

After failing to get any cash or products from the business, the suspects got into a dark grey SUV and headed west on Newport Drive. The vehicle had an obstructed licence plate, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case or footage of the area to call the department. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

“This incident occurred in broad daylight and is very concerning for a safe community like Port Moody,” Zacharias stated.
