Buchanan Square gets a little more work, completion delayed

Improper installation delays project

A contractor is back at work on Coquitlam’s Buchanan Square after parts of the plaza had to be torn up due to some improper installation, according the city’s capital projects director Scott Groves.

Originally set to be finished last summer, the likely completion date for the plaza has been delayed until “before Christmas,” according to Groves.

“I am just saying ‘before Christmas’ at the moment because we are getting disappointed by supply chain issues over and over again on many projects in the construction industry. Some we can work around, but this is one that we just have to wait for the supplier and installer to deliver,” Groves explained.

The partially completed renovation work includes new lighting, seating, a shade structure as well as games and a slide.

No extra cost: The current plaza work comes at no extra cost to the city as the error was found within the warranty period, Groves added.
